What It Is
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a melanocortin receptor agonist that works at the brain (hypothalamus) to trigger libido and arousal. It is FDA-approved for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women.
Mechanism
PT-141 is a melanocortin agonist that increases sexual desire centrally and enhances arousal in both women and men. It can cause increased sexual thoughts, genital arousal, and erectile firmness via central mechanisms. It works at the brain via melanocortin pathways which also touch skin pigmentation and inflammation — showing how these systems interconnect in RECODEX.

Main side effect is nausea and flushing (due to melanocortin effects) — counsel patients to take on a non-full stomach and perhaps use an antiemetic initially. Also, transient blood pressure increase can occur (so avoid in uncontrolled hypertension). Dosing no more than 1 dose/24h and 8 doses/month as per FDA guidelines. Not for use with nitrates.
