Semax
Neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing via BDNF/NGF.
Intranasal spray; SC injection — 1–2 mg total per day intranasally in 50/50 combo with Selank; Semax alone: 250–500 mcg nasal or SC dose; 4–8 week cycles
What It Is
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from ACTH and developed in Russia as a neuroprotective and nootropic agent. It is a cognitive enhancer that works by increasing BDNF and NGF (brain-derived and nerve growth factors).
Mechanism
Semax is neuroprotective and nootropic (cognitive enhancer via increasing BDNF/NGF). Combined with Selank, they improve focus, mood, and stress tolerance. Semax boosts BDNF production, which supports neuroplasticity, memory formation, and neuroprotection. It has been used in Russia for stroke rehabilitation and cognitive decline. BDNF and NGF enhance neuronal survival and synaptic plasticity — effectively "growing" better brain wiring.
How Dr. Emer Uses It
Emer uses Semax in the Longevity & Sleep Stack combined 50/50 with Selank as a nasal spray. Patients restore "calm focus and cognitive clarity." Also used as Semax alone (nasal or SC injection): IN solution or SC, 250–500 mcg dose. For executives and burnout patients, the Selank/Semax combo in RECODEX RE:STORE phase is deployed to "code" for enhanced function — cognitive enhancement as part of the systemic "re-code" rather than treating pathology.
Key Benefits
- ✓Increases BDNF and NGF for neuroplasticity and cognitive enhancement
- ✓Neuroprotective — supports neuronal survival and synaptic plasticity
- ✓Enhances focus, memory formation, and executive function
- ✓Improves mood and reduces cognitive fatigue
- ✓Used in stroke rehabilitation in Russia for neurological recovery
- ✓Complements Selank's anxiolytic effects for comprehensive neuro-optimization

Safety & Considerations
Not FDA-approved in the US (used in Russia with regulatory approval). Given as nasal sprays — main side effect is mild nasal irritation or rare headache. No dependence issues. Research peptide in the US context. Labeled "R&D narrative only" in some documents due to experimental status, but clinical results have been good in Emer's practice. Generally safe.
